Roughly one in five American workers, about 30 million people, are bound by a non-compete clause. This non-compete agreements webinar explains what these clauses are and why they have drawn regulatory attention.
A non-compete stops a worker from joining a competitor or starting a competing business, usually within a set area and period after leaving. Critics say they keep workers in jobs, lower wages for workers bound and unbound, limit new businesses and slow innovation, and are often offered on a take-it-or-leave-it basis.
Each state limits enforcement of non-competes to some degree. The session reviews the Federal Trade Commission's proposed rule that would treat non-compete clauses as an unfair method of competition, along with the employer view of why they are needed.
WHY SHOULD YOU ATTEND?
The FTC proposed barring employers from entering into non-compete clauses with workers and requiring them to rescind existing ones, estimating that this would raise workers' earnings by $250 billion to $296 billion a year. Employers that use non-competes need to understand the arguments and the state rules that already apply.
The session suits employers in all industries, business owners, company leaders, compliance and HR professionals, and managers.
